  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CL_CRM_PS_4S057 - nZDM upgrade is running. Execution of SSP data migration not possible ?

The SAP error message CL_CRM_PS_4S057 indicates that a non-Zero Downtime Maintenance (nZDM) upgrade is currently in progress, which prevents the execution of the SSP (Service Provider) data migration. This error typically arises during system upgrades or migrations when certain processes are locked or restricted to ensure data integrity and consistency.

    Cause:

    1. Ongoing nZDM Upgrade: The primary cause of this error is that the system is in the middle of an nZDM upgrade process. During this time, certain operations, including data migrations, are not allowed to prevent conflicts and ensure that the upgrade completes successfully.
    2. Locking Mechanism: SAP implements a locking mechanism during upgrades to ensure that no other processes interfere with the upgrade, which can lead to data inconsistencies.

    Solution:

    1. Wait for Upgrade Completion: The most straightforward solution is to wait until the nZDM upgrade process is completed. Once the upgrade is finished, you should be able to execute the SSP data migration without encountering this error.
    2. Check Upgrade Status: You can monitor the status of the upgrade process through the SAP system logs or transaction codes like SM37 (for job monitoring) or SMD (for monitoring the upgrade process).
    3. Post-Upgrade Activities: After the upgrade is complete, ensure that you follow the necessary post-upgrade activities, which may include executing the SSP data migration as part of the upgrade process.
    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to the official SAP documentation for nZDM upgrades and SSP data migration for any specific steps or considerations that may apply to your situation.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages (message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.

An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
