Message text: Plug-ins in managed system are newer than plug-ins to be distributed
The version of the plug-ins in your managed system &v2& is higher than
that of the plug-ins available in your CTS server &v1&.
You cannot distribute the plug-ins to the managed system, since this
would lead to a downgrade of the plug-ins.
If there is no special reason why the plug-ins need to be updated, there
is nothing to do.
If you want to update the plug-ins, the following options are available:
Update your CTS server &v1& with the current Support Package of the CTS
plug-in (software component CTS_PLUG). For instructions on how to do
this, refer to SAP Note 1665940. Afterwards, re-start the plug-in
distribution.
The plug-ins in your managed system &v2& were distributed from another
CTS server than &v1&. Log on to this CTS server and distribute the
plug-ins from there.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

The SAP error message CTS_CONFIG_MSG_CL174 indicates that there is a version mismatch between the plug-ins installed in the managed system and the plug-ins that are being distributed from the central system. This typically occurs in the context of Change and Transport System (CTS) when you are trying to distribute transport requests that contain newer plug-ins than those currently installed in the target system.
Cause:
- Version Mismatch: The plug-ins in the managed system are newer than those available in the central system. This can happen if the managed system has been updated or patched independently.
- Transport Request Issues: The transport request may contain references to plug-ins that are not compatible with the version installed in the target system.
- Incorrect Configuration: The configuration of the CTS may not be set up correctly, leading to inconsistencies in the plug-in versions.
Solution:
- Check Plug-in Versions: Verify the versions of the plug-ins installed in both the central and managed systems. You can do this by using transaction codes like
SPAM
orSAINT
in the SAP GUI.- Update Central System: If the managed system has newer plug-ins, consider updating the central system to match the versions in the managed system. This may involve downloading and applying the latest support packages or patches.
- Adjust Transport Requests: If the transport request is not critical, you may choose to exclude the plug-ins from the transport request or create a new transport request that only includes compatible objects.
- Reconfigure CTS: Ensure that the CTS configuration is correct and that all systems are properly connected and synchronized. This may involve checking the transport routes and settings in transaction
STMS
.- Consult SAP Notes: Look for relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific issue. SAP frequently releases notes that provide guidance on resolving version conflicts and other transport-related issues.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
