Message text: BOM for planned order &1 not valid for orders
The system tried to convert the planned order &V1& into a production/
process order. This planned order contains a BOM with BOM status &V2&
that does not have a use for orders.
The planned order is still converted into a production/process order. In
the log for the master data transfer, this message C2 242 appears as
default as an information message (type I).
If you want to convert planned orders into production/process orders,
maintain general BOMs for the planned orders that are also valid for
orders.
This message type can be set using transaction OPJB. If this message
does not appear in the log, maintain the type as initial (space). If the
message type is set to E (error), an error message is written to the
error log during conversion. During collective conversion, the planned
order is not converted.
If the system issues a message referring to error messages during
individual conversion, you must set the message type for message C2 195
in OPJB accordingly.

The SAP error message C2242 indicates that a Bill of Materials (BOM) is not valid for a planned order. This error typically arises when there is a mismatch between the planned order and the BOM configuration in the system. Here are the potential causes, solutions, and related information for this error:
Causes:
- BOM Not Created or Active: The BOM for the material in question may not be created or may not be active for the specific plant or production version.
- Incorrect Validity Dates: The validity dates of the BOM may not cover the planned order's date. If the planned order is outside the validity period of the BOM, the system will throw this error.
- Missing Production Version: If the planned order is linked to a specific production version, and that version does not have an associated BOM, this error can occur.
- Material Type Issues: The material type of the planned order may not be compatible with the BOM.
- BOM Usage: The BOM usage may not be set correctly for the planned order. For example, if the BOM is set for a different usage (like production vs. engineering), it may not be valid for the planned order.
Solutions:
- Check BOM Existence: Verify that the BOM exists for the material and is active for the relevant plant and production version. You can do this using transaction code CS03 (Display BOM).
- Review Validity Dates: Ensure that the validity dates of the BOM encompass the date of the planned order. If necessary, adjust the validity dates or create a new BOM that covers the required period.
- Check Production Version: If applicable, ensure that the planned order is linked to the correct production version that has a valid BOM. You can check this in the material master (transaction code MM03).
- Adjust BOM Usage: Make sure that the BOM usage is appropriate for the planned order. If the planned order is for production, ensure that the BOM is set for production usage.
- Recreate BOM: If the BOM is missing or incorrect, you may need to create or modify the BOM using transaction code CS01 (Create BOM) or CS02 (Change BOM).

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
