The SAP error message AA536 indicates that a specific depreciation area is not active for the asset in question. This error typically arises during asset accounting transactions, such as posting an acquisition or running depreciation, when the system tries to process a depreciation area that has not been configured or activated for the asset.
Cause:
- Inactive Depreciation Area: The depreciation area specified in the asset master record is not active. This can happen if the depreciation area is not assigned to the asset class or if it has been deactivated in the configuration.
- Configuration Issues: The configuration settings for the asset class may not include the depreciation area, or the depreciation area may not be set up correctly in the system.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
