The SAP error message M_OBOM_WB_GNRL003 indicates that there is an issue with the Bill of Materials (BOM) associated with a results-oriented order. Specifically, the message states that the order and item cannot be used for a results-oriented order BOM. This typically occurs in the context of production orders or process orders where a BOM is required for the production process.
Cause
The error can be caused by several factors, including:
Incorrect BOM Type: The BOM being referenced may not be of the correct type for the results-oriented order. Results-oriented orders require a specific type of BOM that is compatible with the order type.
BOM Not Assigned: The BOM may not be properly assigned to the material or order item in question.
Order Type Configuration: The configuration of the order type may not allow for the use of the specified BOM.
Status of the Order: The order may be in a status that does not permit the use of the BOM.
Missing Components: The BOM may be incomplete or missing required components that are necessary for the order.
Solution
To resolve the error, you can take the following steps:
Check BOM Type: Verify that the BOM type is appropriate for the results-oriented order. You may need to create or modify the BOM to ensure it is compatible.
Assign BOM: Ensure that the BOM is correctly assigned to the material and that it is valid for the order item. You can do this by checking the material master data and BOM assignment.
Review Order Type Configuration: Check the configuration settings for the order type in the SAP system. Ensure that it is set up to allow the use of the BOM.
Check Order Status: Review the status of the order to ensure it is in a state that allows for BOM usage. If necessary, change the status of the order.
Validate BOM Components: Ensure that all required components are present in the BOM. If any components are missing, add them to the BOM.
Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific details related to the order type and BOM requirements.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
