  • What causes this issue?

If you do not specify a conversion factor for calculating quantities of
the material as quantities of the planning material, the system
proposes a conversion factor. This factor is determined as follows:
The system checks the alternative units of measure that are maintained
for the planning material. If an alternative unit is the same as the
base unit of the current material, the conversion factor is proposed
immediately. Otherwise, the system continues with point 2.
The system attempts to find a conversion factor using the standard
units of measure table. If is finds one, it proposes this value.
Otherwise, it continues with point 3.
The system proposes "1" as the conversion factor.
If you enter a conversion factor, the system asks you to check it. When
you enter a planning material the system cannot display its base unit
of measure until you select Enter.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages (message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.

An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
