Message number: 312
Message text: Lot size range of sequence is not within lot size range of header
You are attempting to define a lot-size range for an alternative
sequence which is outside of the task list header lot-size range. A
lot-size range for which an alternative sequence is valid does not have
to be identical with that of the header. However, the lot-size range
cannot be totally outside of the lot-size range of the task list
header.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Define a lot-size range for the alternative sequence which is within
the lot-size range of the task list header. Change the lot-size range
in the header beforehand, if necessary.

The SAP error message CP312, which states "Lot size range of sequence is not within lot size range of header," typically occurs in the context of production planning and control, particularly when working with production orders or process orders in SAP. This error indicates that there is a mismatch between the lot size range defined for a specific sequence in a routing or recipe and the lot size range defined for the overall production order or header.
Cause:
Mismatch in Lot Size Ranges: The lot size range defined for the operation or sequence in the routing does not fall within the lot size range defined for the production order header. For example, if the header allows for a lot size of 100 to 500 units, but the sequence allows for a lot size of 600 to 800 units, this error will occur.
Incorrect Configuration: The routing or recipe may have been incorrectly configured, leading to discrepancies in the lot size definitions.
Changes in Master Data: Changes made to the material master, routing, or production order after the initial setup can lead to inconsistencies.
Solution:
Check Lot Size Ranges: Review the lot size ranges defined in both the production order header and the routing/recipe sequences. Ensure that the lot size range for each sequence falls within the overall lot size range of the production order.
Adjust Routing/Recipe: If the sequence's lot size range is incorrect, modify it to ensure it aligns with the production order header's lot size range.
Update Production Order: If the production order's lot size range needs to be adjusted, you can do so in the production order details.
Review Master Data: Check the material master and routing configurations to ensure they are set up correctly and consistently.
Consult Documentation: If necessary, refer to SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team for guidance on how to adjust the configurations properly.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
