  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CP198 - The reference operation set is still used and cannot be deleted ?

The SAP error message CP198 indicates that a reference operation set (ROS) is still in use and cannot be deleted. This typically occurs in the context of production planning and control, where reference operation sets are used to define standard operations for production processes.

    Cause:

The error CP198 is triggered when you attempt to delete a reference operation set that is currently being referenced in one or more production orders, routing, or other related objects. The system prevents the deletion to maintain data integrity and ensure that all dependent objects remain valid.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Identify Dependencies:

      • Use transaction codes like CO03 (Display Production Order) or CA03 (Display Routing) to check if the reference operation set is being used in any production orders or routings.
      • You can also use transaction CS15 (Where-Used List) to find where the reference operation set is being utilized.
    2. Remove References:

      • If you find that the reference operation set is being used in production orders or routings, you will need to either:
        • Change the production orders or routings to use a different reference operation set.
        • Delete or archive the production orders or routings that are using the reference operation set, if they are no longer needed.
    3. Delete the Reference Operation Set:

      • Once all references to the reference operation set have been removed, you can proceed to delete it using transaction CR02 (Change Reference Operation Set) and then selecting the delete option.
    4. Check for Other Dependencies:

      • Ensure that there are no other dependencies, such as planned orders or other objects that might be referencing the operation set.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:

      • CR01: Create Reference Operation Set
      • CR02: Change Reference Operation Set
      • CR03: Display Reference Operation Set
      • CO03: Display Production Order
      • CA03: Display Routing

    • Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for more details on reference operation sets and their usage in production planning.

    • User Roles: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to view and modify production orders and reference operation sets.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the CP198 error and successfully delete the reference operation set if it is no longer needed.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages (message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.

An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
