Message type: E = Error

Message number: 693
Message text: Only an unplanned posting run is possible in this fiscal year.
You have already posted in fiscal years that come after &V2&. This
means that you can only post in the last posting period &V1& in fiscal
year &V2&. Or you can post to a special period, if one is set up. Since
you have not posted yet in this fiscal year, you must specify that the
depreciation posting run is unplanned.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Please check the fiscal year entered. If you are certain you want to
post to fiscal year &V1&, you must start the depreciation posting run
in the last posting period (or in the special period). Be sure to
indicate that this posting run is unplanned, since it falls outside of
the normal posting cycle.

The SAP error message AA693 ("Only an unplanned posting run is possible in this fiscal year") typically occurs in the Asset Accounting (FI-AA) module when you attempt to perform a planned posting run (such as depreciation posting) in a fiscal year that has already been closed for planned postings. This is a safeguard to prevent changes to financial data in a closed period.
Cause:
- Fiscal Year Closure: The fiscal year has been closed for planned postings, meaning that no further planned postings (like depreciation) can be executed for that year.
- Posting Type: The system is expecting a planned posting but is only allowing unplanned postings due to the fiscal year status.
- Configuration Settings: The configuration settings in the Asset Accounting module may restrict planned postings in closed fiscal years.
Solution:
Check Fiscal Year Status: Verify the status of the fiscal year in question. If it is closed for planned postings, you will need to either:
- Open the fiscal year for planned postings (if your business processes allow for this).
- Perform an unplanned posting if necessary.
Use Unplanned Posting: If you need to post something in a closed fiscal year, consider using an unplanned posting. This can be done through the transaction code AB01 (for unplanned depreciation) or similar transactions depending on your needs.
Adjust Configuration: If you frequently encounter this issue and it is impacting your operations, you may want to review the configuration settings in the Asset Accounting module. Consult with your SAP FI-AA configuration team to see if adjustments can be made to allow for planned postings in certain scenarios.
Consult Documentation: Review SAP documentation or help files related to Asset Accounting and fiscal year closing procedures for more detailed guidance.
Contact Support: If the issue persists or if you are unsure about making changes, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting with an SAP expert.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
